As part of his introductory visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak called on President S R Nathan while Mrs Nathan hosted a tea for Datin Sri Rosmah binti Mansor. During the meeting, President Nathan and Prime Minister Najib affirmed the strong and long-standing relations between the two countries and agreed that both countries should continue to explore areas of cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations. President also expressed appreciation for the assistance and cooperation of the Malaysian security authorities, which led to the recapture of Mas Selamat Kastari. Both leaders noted that cooperation between the security agencies remains strong through the years and has helped ensure the safety and security of both countries.
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong also called on Prime Minister Najib at the Ritz-Carlton. The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral ties and noted the long-standing close cooperation between the two countries. Both leaders also discussed political and economic developments in the region. Senior Minister Goh and Prime Minister Najib agreed that the current economic climate calls for closer cooperation between the two countries, both at the regional and bilateral levels.
