MFA Press Statement: Meetings of the Prime Minister Of Thailand, His Excellency Abhisit Vejjajiva with President S R Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on 22 June 2009

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, who is in Singapore for his introductory visit, called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong after receiving a Ceremonial Welcome at the Istana. Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and excellent state of relations between Thailand and Singapore. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments, and agreed to forge a closer partnership to tackle emerging challenges confronting the region. In particular, both sides underscored the importance of pushing ahead with ASEAN's integration. PM Lee reaffirmed that Singapore will work closely with Thailand as the ASEAN Chair to strengthen the organisation. PM Lee also hosted PM Abhisit and his delegation to a luncheon at the Istana.

PM Abhisit also called on President S R Nathan. During the meeting, both sides expressed satisfaction at the strong and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. PM Abhisit also met with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew later the same afternoon. The discussions were broad-based with an exchange of views on regional and international issues.
