Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who is in Xining, Qinghai on an official visit, met with Qinghai Province Party Secretary and Chairman of the Qinghai Provincial People's Congress Qiang Wei this morning. Following the meeting, Party Secretary Qiang hosted Minister Yeo and the Singapore delegation to lunch. During their discussion, Party Secretary Qiang briefed Minister on the developments in Qinghai Province and highlighted its economic potential. Minister Yeo and Party Secretary Qiang expressed a mutual desire to further strengthen the cooperation between Singapore and Qinghai Province. Minister Yeo said that he looked forward to Party Secretary Qiang's forthcoming visit to Singapore later this year and invited Party Secretary Qiang to promote the economic opportunities in Qinghai Province while in Singapore.
Prior to the meeting with Party Secretary Qiang, Minister Yeo was briefed by the Qinghai Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the Qinghai Provincial Commerce Bureau and the Qinghai Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau on developments in Qinghai Province.
Minister Yeo will depart Xining for Lhasa, Tibet, this evening.
