MFA Press Statement: Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, who is in New York from 22 to 29 September 2009 for the 64th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, met with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada on 22 September 2009.

During the meeting, both ministers re-affirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and Japan. They also discussed key regional developments. Minister Yeo highlighted the important role that Japan continued to play in the Asia-Pacific region. He also welcomed the forthcoming visits of Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama and Minister Okada to Singapore in November 2009 in conjunction with the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Singapore.

Minister Yeo will attend the Opening of the General Debate of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly later today.
