MFA Press Statement: Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo at the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo had separate meetings with Andorran Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Relations Xavier Espot Miro, Bhutan Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering and Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Verhagen at the side of the 64th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York on 23 September 2009.

During their meeting, Minister Yeo and Minister Espot reviewed relations between Singapore and Andorra and discussed possible areas of bilateral cooperation.

Minister Tshering updated Minister Yeo on developments in Bhutan. He thanked Minister Yeo for Singapore's humanitarian assistance to Bhutan in the wake of Cyclone Aila in May 2009. Both ministers also welcomed the growing people-to-people ties between Singapore and Bhutan.

Minister Yeo and Minister Verhagen affirmed the strong relations between Singapore and the Netherlands, and noted the multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries. In addition, they exchanged views on developments in Afghanistan and Southeast Asia.

Minister Yeo also met representatives of the American Jewish Council and attended a meeting of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary-General on Myanmar on 23 September 2009.
