Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov is in Singapore on an official visit at the invitation of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. After addressing the opening session of the 4th Russia-Singapore Business Forum (RSBF) this morning, First DPM Shuvalov called on PM Lee Hsien Loong and SM Goh at the Istana. First DPM Shuvalov had also called on MM Lee Kuan Yew yesterday afternoon and was hosted to dinner by SM Goh at the Paddock Club during the F1 Grand Prix on 27 September.
PM Lee and First DPM Shuvalov discussed the economic developments in Russia, and exchanged views on possible collaborative projects between the two countries. They looked forward to the State visit by President Dmitry Medvedev in conjunction with the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November 2009, and discussed Russia's preparations for the APEC 2012 in Vladivostok.
During the call on SM Goh, both leaders underscored the potential for the two countries to further deepen political and economic ties. SM Goh and First DPM Shuvalov discussed ways in which Singapore could be a gateway and a catalyst for Russian businessmen with interests in the Asian region. First DPM Shuvalov also said that Russia welcomed partnerships with companies from Singapore and the region.
At their meeting yesterday afternoon, First DPM Shuvalov and MM Lee discussed ways to enhance the economic collaboration between Singapore and Russia, including the strengthening of business linkages and increases in investments in Singapore and Russia. First DPM Shuvalov will also be taking part in MM's "In Conversation" session at the 4th RSBF this evening.
