The 9th Coordinating Meeting of the Thailand-Singapore Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) will be held in Singapore from 14-15 October 2009. Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will jointly officiate the Opening Ceremony with Mr Kasit Piromya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Minister Kasit will also call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Since its inception in 1998, CSEP has been an important bilateral mechanism promoting closer contact and enhancing cooperation between various agencies of both countries in areas such as education; health; media, arts and culture; information and communications technology; and social welfare and youth cooperation, amongst others. Senior officials from a number of Ministries and government agencies will review the ongoing cooperation between the two civil services, as well as consider new proposals for further cooperation. They will also brainstorm and explore ideas on how the two civil services can respond more effectively to complex, cross-cutting regional challenges in line with the theme for this year's meeting, "Thailand and Singapore: Enhancing Civil Service Coordination for Effective Responses to Complex Regional Challenges".
