MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to Sri Lanka, 14-18 October 2009

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will visit Sri Lanka from 14 to 18 October 2009 to attend the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) in Colombo on 15 October 2009 and thereafter make an official bilateral visit at the invitation of the Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama. While in Colombo, Minister Yeo will call on President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, and meet Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe.

As part of his bilateral visit, Minister Yeo will visit Hambantota in southern Sri Lanka to officiate the re-opening of the three schools that Singapore upgraded and refurbished in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami. In addition, Minister Yeo will visit an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp and the historic Library in Jaffna. Minister Yeo is also scheduled to travel to Trincomalee, a port city on the east coast of Sri Lanka, to observe the development activities there.

Minister Yeo will be accompanied by Singapore community leaders and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
