MFA Spokesman's comments on Singaporeans in Padang

In response to media queries, the MFA Spokesman said that as at 1600 hours (Singapore time), all Singaporeans known to MFA to have been in Padang when the earthquake struck, have been accounted for. They are safe. Some are already back in Singapore while others will be returning over the next few days.

Mr John Lee remains in hospital in Padang. We have been in touch with the Singaporeans and/or the family members. Our Embassy officials are on the ground and will be providing assistance to Mr Lee and the remaining Singaporeans.

As MFA continues to monitor the situation, anyone knowing of a Singaporean friend or relative who was in Padang and has been uncontactable since the earthquake should contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at
(+65) 6332 0000.
