Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met the 44th President of the United States, President Barack Obama, at the Istana this morning on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting. The two leaders last met in May 2007, during Prime Minister Lee's visit to the United States.
Prime Minister Lee and President Obama had a good discussion on a wide range of issues, including the health of the global economy, regional developments, and the role of APEC, ASEAN and the G-20. The two leaders reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations between Singapore and the United States. They also discussed the evolving regional architecture and the importance of maintaining an open and inclusive regional architecture. Prime Minister Lee welcomed the US' engagement with region, as well as President Obama's recent announcement that the United States would engage the members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.
