MFA Press Statement: Meeting between Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and His Excellency Hu Jintao, President Of The People's Republic Of China, 12 November 2009

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao this morning. President Hu is making a State Visit to Singapore at the invitation of President S R Nathan.

During the meeting, PM Lee and President Hu reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Singapore and China. Both leaders agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation on all fronts, such as environmental protection, water management and human resource development. Both leaders also discussed regional developments and the common challenges faced in an increasingly globalised world.

After the meeting, PM Lee and President Hu witnessed the signing of the following four agreements:
Framework Agreement between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and the People's Republic of China on the Exchange Programme with Middle- to Senior- Level Officials
MOU between the Ministries of Education of Singapore and the People's Republic of China on the Collaboration between Zhejiang University and Singapore University of Technology and Design
MOU between the Governments of Singapore and the People's Republic of China on the Establishment of the China Cultural Center in Singapore
Agreement for Collaborative Conservation and Research of Giant Panda between China Wildlife Conservation Association and Wildlife Reserves Singapore

After the signing ceremony, PM Lee hosted a lunch in honour of President Hu.
