MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore's Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Chile
The Government has appointed Mr Cheong Yip Seng as Singapore's next Ambassador to the Republic of Chile. He will be resident in Singapore.
Mr Cheong was the Editor-in-Chief of the English and Malay Newspapers Division in Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) from 1987 to 2006. After his retirement from SPH, Mr Cheong remained as the Editorial Advisor till 31 December 2007, and chaired the Advisory Council on the Impact of New Media on Society from 2007 to 2009. Mr Cheong is a member of the Board of Trustees in the National University of Singapore and holds directorships in SBS Transit Ltd and the Building and Construction Authority.
Mr Cheong is married to Ms Lim Sook Hiong Cecily and they have three children.

BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY
Mr Cheong Yip Seng (张业成) was born on 26 June 1943 in Penang. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the English and Malay Newspapers Division in Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) from 12 January 1987 to 31 December 2006.
After his retirement from SPH, Mr Cheong remained as the Editorial Advisor till 31 December 2007. He was Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Impact of New Media on Society from April 2007 to April 2009, and a member of the Board of Trustees in the National University of Singapore. Mr Cheong holds directorships in SBS Transit Ltd and the Building and Construction Authority.
Mr Cheong is married to Ms Lim Sook Hiong Cecily and they have three children.
