MFA Press Statement: State Visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, 30 March to 3 April 2010

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon will make a State Visit to Singapore on 30 March to 3 April 2010 at the invitation of President S R Nathan. This will be the first state visit from Tajikistan and coincides with the fifteenth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Tajikistan. President Rahmon will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Hamrokhon Zarifi, State Adviser to the President on Foreign Policy Rakhmatullaev Erkin, Minister for Economic Development and Trade Hamraliev Farrukh, Chairman of the National Bank Rahimzoda Sharif, senior officials and a business delegation.

President Rahmon will call on and be hosted to a State Banquet by President S R Nathan, and will meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts RAdm (NS) Lui Tuck Yew. Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi will host President Rahmon to separate lunches. President Rahmon will also deliver a keynote address at the inaugural Tajikistan-Singapore Business Forum and Networking Session and visit the NEWater Visitor Centre.

President Rahmon and Prime Minister Lee will sign a Joint Statement affirming the common understandings reached by both countries on bilateral cooperation. The foreign ministers will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and Tajikistan on Bilateral Consultations.
