MFA Press Statement: Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to the Republic of Azerbaijan, 18 - 21 March 2010

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will make an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan from 18 to 21 March 2010, at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov. This is the first visit by a Singapore Minister since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Azerbaijan in 1994.

In Azerbaijan, Minister Yeo will call on President Ilham Aliyev, have a meeting and lunch with Minister Mammadyarov and a working dinner with Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov. Minister Yeo will also join President Aliyev in a groundbreaking ceremony of a new shipbuilding and repair yard in Baku on 19 March 2010. The new yard is a joint venture between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Azerbaijan Investment Committee (AIC), to be constructed and operated by Keppel Offshore and Marine (O&M).

Minister Yeo will be accompanied by Mr Philip Yeo, Special Advisor for Economic Development in the Prime Minister's Office and Chairman of SPRING Singapore, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
