Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo is in the Republic of Azerbaijan at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov.
On 19 March 2010, Minister Yeo called on President Ilham Aliyev, and conveyed a letter from President S R Nathan to President Aliyev, inviting the latter to make a visit to Singapore. Minister Yeo also joined President Aliyev in a groundbreaking ceremony of a new shipbuilding and repair yard in Baku. The new yard is a joint venture between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), the Azerbaijan Investment Committee (AIC) and Keppel Offshore and Marine Limited (O&M).
Minister Yeo had good discussions with Minister Mammadyarov about ways to enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanged views on a broad range of international issues. A joint statement between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs was issued at a Press Conference following the meeting between the two Ministers.
Minister Yeo was also hosted to dinner on 18 March 2010 by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev.
