President S R Nathan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote to Polish Marshal of Parliament Bronislaw Komorowski and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk respectively, to convey their sympathies to the government and people of Poland over the tragic death of Polish President Lech Kaczyński, his wife Maria, and many others who were killed in a plane crash today. Dear Mr Marshal

I was deeply shocked to learn about the tragic death of President Lech Kaczyński, his wife Maria, and many others who were killed in a plane crash today. On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend my deepest condolences to the government and people of Poland over this unexpected tragedy. Our hearts go out to all the families of the bereaved and the people of Poland as you mourn their loss.

Dear Prime Minister,

On behalf of the government and people of Singapore, I convey our deepest condolences to you and the people of Poland on the death of President Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria and entourage in a plane crash on the way to the commemoration of the anniversary of the Katyn massacre. Our thoughts are with your people, especially those who lost their families and loved ones, during this sorrowful time.
