MFA Press Statement: Visit by UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance Githu Muigai, 21 - 28 April 2010

Mr Githu Muigai, United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, will be visiting Singapore from 21 to 28 April 2010 at the invitation of the Singapore Government.

During his visit, Mr Muigai will meet with Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr George Yeo, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Mr K Shanmugan, Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, and Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong. He will also receive briefings from Government Ministries, the Courts and the Presidential Council for Minority Rights. Mr Muigai will also meet with several Members of Parliament.

Singapore welcomes the opportunity to share with the UN, through Mr Muigai, our experiences and efforts at combating racism and racial discrimination and our policies to encourage racial and religious tolerance and harmony.
