Congratulatory message from PM to Prime Minister David Cameron
12 May 2010
Dear Prime Minister
Please accept my warmest congratulations on your appointment as Prime Minister. You take the reins at a time when the UK faces daunting challenges and needs strong and wise leadership. I am confident that you and your government are equal to the tasks ahead.
There is much that the UK and Singapore have in common. Our bilateral trade and investments are growing and our educational institutions and research centres have increased their exchanges. We share common perspectives on many issues, including the need to promote balanced and sustainable economic growth, address the problems of climate change, and strengthen the non-proliferation regime. I look forward to working closely with you to deepen our bilateral ties and advance our cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
I appreciate that you will have a crowded agenda over the next several months. Nevertheless, I hope that you will find an opportunity to visit Singapore and our region before too long.
With warmest regards,
Yours sincerely
[signed]
Rt Hon David Cameron, MP
Prime Minister
United Kingdom

Valedictory message from PM to MP Gordon Brown

Dear Mr Brown
As you prepare to leave office, I write to congratulate you on your 13 years in government, as Chancellor of the Exchequer and then Prime Minister. You have been a leader of deep convictions. You will be well remembered for your contributions to the UK and the world, especially in galvanising global action to shore up confidence in the international financial system when the UK chaired the G20 in 2009.
I am confident you will continue to contribute to the UK in another capacity, and would like to wish you the very best in your future undertakings.
Yours sincerely,

Rt Hon Gordon Brown, MP

Congratulatory message from MM Lee to Prime Minister David Cameron

Dear Prime Minister
Congratulations on leading your party to win the general elections and to form the new government. Huge tasks come with high office, not least in reducing the deficit and public debt. I am confident that you and your core team will rise to the challenge.
You have identified the need to increase your engagement of Asia, particularly with China and India. Large parts of Asia have goodwill and admiration for the UK.
You should build on this. UK and Singapore have much to do together for mutual benefit. I hope you will visit Singapore and our region before too long to see for yourself how dynamic the region is.
Yours Sincerely

Rt Hon David Cameron, MP
Prime Minister
United Kingdom

Dear Gordon Brown
You fought a hard campaign but the winds of change were too strong against you and your party. When British banks were under threat and the world faced the prospect of another depression, you made the right calls.
I wish you the very best for the future.
