Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo attended the 18th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting on 26 May 2010 in Madrid, which was hosted by Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Miguel Angel Moratinos. The Ministers of ASEAN and EU had a good exchange of views on international issues of mutual concern. The discussions, marked by a warm spirit of friendship, also covered future directions of the ASEAN-EU relationship and how to further deepen relations and interactions between the two regions.
Minister Yeo also had five bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the meeting, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Lene Espersen; Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Dr Guido Westerwelle; Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom Jeremy Browne; Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Italy Stefania Craxi, and the EU Special Envoy on Myanmar Pierre Fassino. The Secretary of State of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doru Costea also met with Minister Yeo to brief him on the state of progress in the legal proceedings on the Ionescu case.
Minister Yeo departs Madrid for home on 27 May 2010.
