MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries on clashes in Bangkok

In response to media queries on clashes in Bangkok, the MFA Spokesman said:

"We are dismayed and deeply concerned by the escalating violence in Bangkok. Unless all parties immediately exercise restraint and resume dialogue, we fear that the situation may slip out of the control of all parties. If this happens, the consequences both for Thailand and for ASEAN will be extremely grave. There is still time for a political solution and we hope that all parties will have the wisdom to use that time in the interests of all Thais and the region.

Singaporeans are reminded of the Ministry's earlier advice against non-essential travel to Bangkok. Singaporeans already in Bangkok are reminded to remain indoors as far as possible and avoid unnecessary travel within the city, in particular to avoid the areas where demonstrations are occurring. They should be on personal alert and monitor the news closely. They should also take the necessary precautions for their personal safety and eRegister immediately if not already done so at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/. This will enable the Ministry and our Embassy in Bangkok to contact them and render the necessary consular assistance in case of emergencies."
