MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of Minister George Yeo to Australia from 15 to 19 June 2010

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo is currently in Perth as part of the official visit to Australia at the invitation of Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith.

Minister Yeo was hosted to lunch by Minister Smith. Minister Yeo called on the Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett, during which they discussed ways to further strengthen the economic cooperation as well as the people-to-people ties between Singapore and Western Australia. Minister Yeo welcomed Premier Barnett to make a visit to Singapore later this year with a business delegation.

This afternoon, Minister Yeo visited the Curtin University of Technology where he received a briefing on its research projects and met Singaporean students studying in the university. At an evening reception, Minister Yeo met with members of the Singaporean community, Singapore students and RSAF personnel based in Pearce.

Yesterday, Minister Yeo met with Trade Minister Simon Crean in Canberra. Both Ministers discussed ways to further improve bilateral economic ties. They also discussed the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Minister Yeo will lay a wreath at the War Memorial in Kings Park tomorrow, after which he will return to Singapore.
