MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of Minister George Yeo to New Zealand from 11 to 15 June 2010

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo is currently in Wellington as part of his official visit to New Zealand from 11 to 15 June 2010. Minister Yeo called on the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Bill English and the Leader of the Opposition Phil Goff today. Minister Yeo was also hosted to a dinner by the Minister of Trade Tim Groser this evening.

Minister Yeo and DPM English had a good discussion on recent developments in the region. Minister Yeo also welcomed DPM English's forthcoming working visit to Singapore in September 2010. Minister Yeo's dinner with Minister Groser covered a wide range of subjects, including economic developments in the region such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as climate change issues.

Minister Yeo met with members of the Singaporean community in New Zealand at a reception hosted by the Singapore High Commissioner in Wellington Justice (Ret) MPH Rubin this evening. Minister Yeo also visited the Meridian Eco-Headquarters and the Makara Wind Farm to gain an understanding of New Zealand's environmentally-friendly efforts and renewable energy development. In addition, Minister Yeo visited the Weta Workshop, an Oscar-award winning conceptual design and physical manufacturing facility in Wellington, which is best known for its work on Avatar and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
