MFA Press Statement: Official Visit of Minister George Yeo to New Zealand from 11 to 15 June 2010

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo is currently in Wellington as part of his official visit to New Zealand from 11 to 15 June 2010. Minister Yeo called on Prime Minister John Key and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Lockwood Smith today. Minister Yeo also met with the former Minister for Trade Negotiations Jim Sutton.

Minister Yeo and PM Key reaffirmed the excellent bilateral ties and engaged in wide-ranging discussions on regional and global developments. Minister Yeo welcomed PM Key's forthcoming first official visit to Singapore in September 2010 at the invitation of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Minister Yeo and Dr Smith had a good exchange of views on international economic trends.

Minister Yeo was also hosted to a Roundtable Luncheon by the Asia:NZ Foundation this afternoon, where he spoke about "Singapore's Place in the World and Southeast Asian Regional Integration". Minister Yeo departs Wellington for Canberra for an official visit to Australia this afternoon.
