Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will make a working visit to Beijing, China from 12 to 17 September 2010.
Minister Yeo will participate in the final meeting of the World Bank's World Development Report (WDR) Advisory Council Meeting from 13 to 14 September 2010. The 2011 WDR focuses on the theme of "Conflict, Security and Development". Minister Yeo is a member of the WDR Advisory Council, which oversees the 2011 WDR. The Advisory Council will review the findings and directions for action of the WDR before the report is finalised for publication in January 2011. Minister Yeo will also attend events marking the 30th Anniversary of the World Bank-People's Republic of China Cooperation.
While in Beijing, Minister Yeo will call on PRC State Councillor Dai Bingguo and meet PRC Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Minister Yeo will also meet the 11th Panchen Lama, who is concurrently a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee and Vice Chairman of the China Buddhist Association. On 16 September 2010, Minister Yeo will attend the China-Singapore TV Golden Melodies Concert as the Guest-of-Honour. This concert is jointly organised by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and China Broadcasting and Performance Arts Group, and is one of the commemorative events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China.
Minister Yeo will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
