| Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo conveyed his condolences to Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa on the tragic loss of lives and destruction wrought in the wake of the Mentawai Islands tsunami and eruption of Mount Merapi. Minister Yeo and Minister Marty are in Hanoi, Vietnam to attend the 7th Meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) ahead of the 17th ASEAN Summit, which begins tomorrow. Minister Yeo also informed Minister Marty that Singapore stood ready to render our assistance to Indonesia's relief efforts. |

On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to express through you my deepest sympathies to the people affected by these disasters. I hope they will bravely endure the pain and suffering that this calamity has imposed on them. Our thoughts are with the Indonesian people during these trying times, especially the families of the victims and their dependents. Singapore stands ready to assist Indonesia in whatever way we can.
