MFA Press Statement: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Bilateral Meeting with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the Sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, Hanoi, Vietnam, 29 October 2010

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on 29 October 2010 at the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Hanoi.

Prime Minister Lee and Premier Wen reaffirmed the excellent state of relations between Singapore and China, as both sides marked the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the strong economic, political and people-to-people ties that have grown over the last two decades.

Both leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through projects like the Suzhou Industrial Park and Tianjin Eco-city, in the areas of human resource development, and to continue exchanging experiences in addressing the challenges of urbanizing populations. Prime Minister Lee said that he was impressed when he recently visited the central and western regions of China.

Prime Minister Lee congratulated Premier Wen on the highly successful Shanghai World Expo, and looked forward to continued exchange of high level visits between the two countries.
