Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 22 to 25 October 2010.

During the visit, SMS Zainul called on the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. They discussed issues of mutual interests as well as regional and global trends. Both also explored the possibility of more cooperation between Singapore and Sharjah, the third largest emirate in the UAE, in the fields of culture, education and economic engagement.

SMS Zainul also called on the UAE Minister for Cabinet Affairs Mohammed Al Gergawi. They exchanged views on developments in their respective regions, and shared experiences on Singapore and Dubai's respective roles as global cities. Both expressed satisfaction with the strong state of bilateral relations between Singapore and the UAE.

Earlier, SMS Zainul also visited the Ismaili Centre and the Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage in Dubai.

SMS Zainul also held a breakfast meeting with representatives of the Singapore community in Dubai. The number of Singaporeans in Dubai is estimated at 1,000.

From the UAE, SMS Zainul will proceed to Marrakech, Morroco, where he will participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa from 26 to 28 October 2010. After the WEF, SMS Zainul will visit Muscat, Oman, where he will represent Singapore at the "Jewel of Muscat" Gala Dinner.
