MFA Press Statement: Visit of Ambassador-At-Large Luis Cdebaca, Head of the Office to Combat and Monitor Trafficking-In-Persons in the US Department of State,18 to 20 November 2010

Ambassador-At-Large Luis CdeBaca, Head of the Office to Combat and Monitor Trafficking-in-Persons in the US Department of State, is visiting Singapore from 18 to 20 November 2010 as part of a fact-finding trip that includes stops in Brunei, Malaysia, Morocco, and Taiwan. This is Ambassador CdeBaca's first visit to Singapore.

During his visit, Ambassador CdeBaca met senior officials from Singaporean agencies dealing with issues related to Trafficking-in-Persons (TIP), such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Singapore Police Force, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, and the Attorney-General's Chambers. The officials briefed Ambassador CdeBaca on the inter-agency processes, policies, legislation and practical measures Singapore has in place to prevent TIP, protect TIP victims and prosecute TIP offenders. They also had a good discussion with Ambassador CdeBaca and his delegation on the challenges facing Singapore as a destination country, as well as regional and international initiatives to combat TIP. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue combating TIP and agreed to enhance information exchanges on anti-TIP measures.
