MFA Press Statement: Visit of Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi to Singapore, 21 - 23 November 2010

At the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo, Pakistan Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi visited Singapore from 21-23 November 2010. Apart from meeting Minister Yeo, Mr Qureshi also called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong on 23 November and 22 November respectively.

In their meetings, the Singapore leaders and Mr Qureshi affirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and discussed ways to enhance closer cooperation. Mr Qureshi apprised the Singapore leaders on developments in Pakistan and South Asia, highlighting his desire for an international concerted effort to combat terrorism. Minister Yeo briefed Mr Qureshi on the latest developments in ASEAN and the region.

Ambassador-at-Large Tommy Koh chaired the Distinguished Public Lecture organised by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) for Mr Qureshi. Mr Qureshi spoke on the topic "Pakistan in the next decade: Prospects and Challenges".

Mr Qureshi departs this evening for Islamabad.
