Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will be participating in the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Road Trip to China from 23 to 25 January 2011. This Road Trip is part of ongoing efforts to profile the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity that was approved by ASEAN Leaders at the 17th ASEAN Summit in October 2010. The trip, intended for the ASEAN Foreign Ministers to gain first-hand experience of the transportation links between ASEAN and China, will take them from Chiang Rai, Thailand to Kunming, China via Laos. This is the second ASEAN Foreign Ministers' road trip; the Foreign Ministers made a trip through Thailand, Laos and Vietnam in January 2010 to familiarise themselves with the state of road connections in the region.
Following the Road Trip, Minister Yeo will attend the ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers' Meeting on 25 January in Kunming, where the Foreign Ministers will exchange views on enhancing ASEAN and China's strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in the region. The Meeting will also see the launch of the ASEAN-China Friendship and Exchange Year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations.
