[Latest] MFA Spokesman's comments in response to media queries on the latest demonstrations in Bahrain

In response to media queries on the latest demonstrations in Bahrain on 18 February 2011, the MFA Spokesman said:

"We have been monitoring the on-going unrest in Bahrain and note that there are reports that more demonstrations could be expected over the next few days. We therefore urge Singapore citizens to defer non-essential travel to Bahrain at this time.

Singaporeans already in Bahrain should continue to keep in close touch with the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh, which has despatched MFA officers to Manama, Bahrain since 17 February 2011 to monitor the situation and provide assistance where required. Singaporeans should also continue to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, including monitoring the news closely, avoiding large gatherings and demonstrations and to stay away from areas where they may occur.
