At the request of the Brazilian authorities, the Singapore Government will make a monetary contribution of US$50,000 to help those who have been affected by the severe floods in the three municipalities of Teresopolis, Petrpolis and Nova Friburgo in Brazil in January 2011. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had earlier written to Brazilian President Dilma Vana Rouseff on 15 January 2011, and Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo had also written to Brazilian Foreign Minister Antonio de Aguiar Patriota on 18 January 2011 to express their sympathies on the loss of lives and destruction caused by the floods.
