President of the Republic of Austria Dr Heinz Fischer, who is in Singapore on a State Visit, was welcomed by President S R Nathan at a ceremony this morning at the Istana. Following the ceremony, President Fischer called on President Nathan and met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
During President Fischer's call on President Nathan, the leaders exchanged views about political and economic developments in Europe and Asia. They also discussed cooperation in the economic field, science and technology, and arts and culture.
President Fischer and Prime Minister Lee reaffirmed the good relations between Singapore and Austria. The leaders also agreed to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.
President Fischer visited the ArtScience Museum and Fusionopolis this afternoon. In the evening, President Nathan will host a State Banquet in honour of President and Mrs Fischer. Tomorrow, President Fischer will attend the Singapore-Austria Economic Forum and visit the National Museum and Nanyang Technological University.
