MFA Press Statement: Visit by Former Brazilian Minister Of External Relations Ambassador Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim to Singapore, 15-18 February 2011

Former Brazilian Minister of External Relations Ambassador Celso Luiz Nunes Amorim called on Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo today. Ambassador Amorim is visiting Singapore at Minister Yeo's invitation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Distinguished Visitors' Programme from 15 to 18 February 2011.

During the call on Minister Yeo, Ambassador Amorim reaffirmed the good state of relations between Singapore and Brazil, and expressed confidence that the bilateral relationship would continue to deepen under President Dilma Rousseff's administration. Ambassador Amorim updated Minister on developments in Brazil, and Brazil's foreign policy towards Asia. Minister Yeo and Ambassador Amorim also discussed various international developments, including developments in Asia and Latin America.

This is Ambassador Amorim's second visit to Singapore and his first overseas engagement since stepping down as Minister of External Relations. Apart from the call on Minister Yeo, Ambassador Amorim is also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang. In addition, Ambassador Amorim will give a S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Distinguished Public Lecture on World Governance in the Second Decade of the 21st Century on 17 February 2011 at the Shangri-La Hotel.
