In response to media queries on Singaporeans in Libya, the MFA Spokesman said:
We have been closely monitoring the situation in Libya. From the onset, the safety and well-being of Singaporeans have been our paramount concern. Our Embassy in Cairo has kept in constant contact with the Singaporeans in Tripoli as well as worked to secure their safe departure. All ten Singaporeans who were in Libya have left Tripoli.
Of the ten Singaporeans, seven are staff of Boustead Singapore Ltd, which also has fifteen other staff who are ASEAN nationals in Libya. We had worked closely with Boustead to evacuate their 22 staff who left Libya on 23 February 2011. The final remaining Singaporean left Tripoli and arrived safely in Cairo on 25 February 2011.
The Ministry reiterates its advice that Singaporeans should defer all travel to Libya for the time being. Should Singaporeans require any consular assistance, they can contact:
