MFA Spokesman's Comments in Response to Media Queries on the Latest Demonstrations in Libya on 21 February 2011

In response to media queries on the latest demonstrations in Libya on 21 February 2011, the MFA Spokesman said:

Our Embassy in Cairo has learnt from Boustead that its staff, including a number of Singaporeans, have re-located from their housing project site in Al-Marj (about 100 km from Benghazi) to Tripoli. We understand from Boustead that its expatriate staff are planning to leave Tripoli.

Given the uncertain security situation, Singaporeans are advised to defer non-essential travel to Libya at this time. We have advised Singaporeans who are in Libya to remain alert, monitor local developments closely as well as avoid areas of public disturbances.
