12 February 2011

In response to media queries about the situation in Egypt, the MFA spokesman said:

"Egypt has entered into a new phase in its political evolution. We are relieved that this has been a largely peaceful process. Nevertheless the road ahead is fraught with many uncertainties. We hope that all sides will continue to work together on the long term challenges of building institutions to provide good governance and economic growth for the people. Egypt's stability is important to the region and the world."

Asked about the impact of these developments on bilateral relations, the MFA Spokesman added: "Singapore and Egypt enjoy long-standing and close relations. We do not anticipate any change."
