MFA Spokesman's comments in response to media queries on the recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia

07 February 2011

In response to media queries on the recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia, the MFA spokesman said:

"We are deeply concerned by the recent clashes, and call on both countries to exercise restraint. We urge Thailand and Cambodia to resolve their differences through negotiations. This is important both for their long term relationship, as well as in the broader interests of ASEAN.

Singapore welcomes and supports the visit by Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa to Bangkok and Phnom Penh. Indonesia, as ASEAN Chair, is actively consulting the relevant parties and helping to facilitate dialogue between the two countries so that the dispute can be resolved in a peaceful manner."
