His Excellency Sukhbaatar Batbold, Prime Minister of Mongolia, who is in Singapore on an Official Visit, was welcomed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at a ceremony this morning at the Istana. Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Batbold had a meeting with Prime Minister Lee and paid a courtesy call on President S R Nathan. Prime Minister Lee also hosted Prime Minister Batbold to lunch.

At the meeting with Prime Minister Lee, Prime Minister Batbold briefed Prime Minister Lee on economic and social developments in Mongolia. The leaders also discussed cooperation in various fields like education, healthcare and housing. During the meeting with President Nathan, President Nathan congratulated Prime Minister Batbold on Mongolia's recent economic success. President Nathan also expressed hope that the Mongolian officials who had been trained under the Singapore Cooperation Programme would contribute positively towards Mongolia's development.

Earlier in the day, an orchid was named in honour of Prime Minister Batbold and his spouse, Madam Khorloo Otgontuya. Prime Minister Batbold also visited Singapore Exchange Limited and the Housing and Development Board. Tomorrow, he will attend a business forum organised by the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, open "Genghis Khan: The Exhibition" at the Marina Bay Sands ArtScience Gallery and deliver a public lecture on Mongolia's economic outlook and national development strategy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
