MFA Press Statement: State Visit by the President of Ukraine His Excellency Viktor Yanukovych, 27 – 29 March 2011

President of Ukraine Mr Viktor Yanukovych, who is in Singapore on a State Visit, was welcomed by President S R Nathan at a ceremony this morning at the Istana. Following the ceremony, President Yanukovych called on President Nathan. During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and Ukraine, and looked forward to greater collaboration between the private sectors of the two countries. President Yanukovych then met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the state of bilateral relations and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation for mutual benefit. Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong hosted President Yanukovych to lunch, where the two leaders discussed recent developments in Ukraine and explored possible areas of cooperation between both countries.

In the afternoon, President Yanukovych visited the Housing and Development Board Hub at Toa Payoh and the Singapore Power Ayer Rajah Control Centre.

President will host a State Banquet in President Yanukovych's honour this evening. Tomorrow, President Yanukovych will attend the Singapore-Ukraine Business Forum before departing for Brunei.
