MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries on MFA's assistance for Singaporeans leaving Japan

In response to media queries on MFA's assistance for Singaporeans leaving Japan, a MFA spokesman said:

The number of Singaporeans leaving Japan has dropped significantly over the past few days. MFA will suspend deployment of the Consular Teams that have been stationed at Japan's Haneda and Narita Airports since 15 March 2011. We will however continue to augment our staff at the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo to help Singaporeans who require consular assistance. Our Embassy in Tokyo will continue to keep in close touch with Singaporeans who choose to remain in Japan. We would also remind Singaporeans in Japan to pay close attention to and heed any instructions from the Japanese Government.

Singaporeans in Japan, or who intend to travel there, who have not yet registered with our Embassy in Tokyo are strongly advised to do so at: http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/. Should Singaporeans require any consular assistance, they can contact the Embassy or MFA Duty Office (24-hours) at:
