Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Angela Merkel will make an official visit to Singapore from 1-2 June 2011, at the invitation of PM Lee Hsien Loong. She will be accompanied by Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr Hans-Joachim Otto, members of the German Federal Parliament, senior officials, business leaders and representatives of the media. This will be Dr Merkel's first visit to Singapore as Chancellor.
Dr Merkel will pay a courtesy call on President S R Nathan and meet PM Lee on 1 June 2011. PM Lee will also host an official dinner in honour of the Chancellor and her delegation. On 2 June 2011, Dr Merkel will deliver the 31st Singapore Lecture and visit the National Orchid Garden where a special orchid hybrid will be named after her.
