We no longer advise against non-essential travel to Japan.
Singaporeans should, however, continue to avoid travel to the coastal areas of Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures which were the most affected by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami, as these areas continue to suffer disruptions to residential, business and transport infrastructure.
The International Atomic Energy Agency continues to maintain its assessment that the "overall situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant remains very serious".
Singaporeans should therefore:
- strictly observe the exclusion zone of 30 km around the Fukushima nuclear power plant imposed by the Japanese Government; and
- refrain from travel within a radius of 80 km from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, and Singaporeans who remain there are strongly advised to relocate to safer areas.
Singaporeans travelling to Japan should also be prepared for further aftershocks and take all necessary precautions. They should pay close attention to and heed any instructions from the Japanese Government. Singaporeans who are in Japan or intend to travel there are strongly advised to e-register at http://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ if they have not done so already, so that we can contact them in the event of an emergency.
