MFA Press Statement: State Visit of President S R Nathan to the Republic of Mauritius, 4-7 June 2011

President S R Nathan will make a State Visit to Mauritius from 4 to 7 June 2011 at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam. This is the first State Visit by a Singapore President to Mauritius.

President Nathan will meet the President of Mauritius Sir Anerood Jugnauth, Prime Minister Ramgoolam, Speaker of the National Assembly Rajkeswur Purryag, Chief Justice Yeung Kam John, and the Leader of the Opposition Paul Bérenger. President Nathan will address a special session of the National Assembly of Mauritius. He will also be conferred the Degree of Doctor of Civil Law Honoris Causa by the University of Mauritius in recognition of his contributions in the fields of education and culture.

President Nathan will be accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, Member of Parliament (MP) for East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Ms Jessica Tan, MP for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng, Singapore's High Commissioner to Mauritius R Jayachandran, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In conjunction with the State Visit, Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation Tony Chew will lead a business delegation comprising more than 20 companies that are keen to take advantage of business opportunities in the island African country.
