President of the European Commission Mr José Manuel Barroso called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this evening. During the meeting, the two leaders noted the good progress of the ongoing negotiations on an EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA).
They also agreed that the successful completion of the EUSFTA would be a stepping stone for closer EU-ASEAN engagement. The two leaders also exchanged views on recent developments in East Asia and the economic situation in Europe.
