MFA Press Statement: State Visit of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam His Excellency Truong Tan Sang, 26 September 2011

President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam His Excellency Truong Tan Sang, who is in Singapore on a State Visit, called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam on 26 September 2011. During the meeting, both Presidents reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties, and noted the growing exchanges between the governments, businesses and peoples from the two countries. They also discussed areas where Singapore and Vietnam can strengthen cooperation such as trade and investment, education and tourism. President Tan and President Sang also noted that the two countries have collaborated closely in ASEAN and other international fora.

President Sang also had a separate meeting with former Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew. President Sang and Mr Lee noted the close and increasingly multi-faceted cooperation between both countries. In particular, they encouraged greater engagement between the private sectors so as to further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.

President and Mrs Tan will host a State Banquet in honour of President Sang and his spouse Madam Mai Thi Hanh this evening.
