MFA Press Statement: Introductory Visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam to the Kingdom of Cambodia, 5-6 October 2011

Minister for Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam called on Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong this morning. During the meeting, they reaffirmed the warm and longstanding ties between Singapore and Cambodia and discussed ways to further broaden and deepen bilateral cooperation. They also discussed a range of issues including domestic developments in Cambodia, the key issues in ASEAN's agenda and how ASEAN can make further progress towards the establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015. Minister Shanmugam expressed Singapore's strong support for Cambodia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2012.


Minister Shanmugam also called on Prime Minister Hun Sen this afternoon. Prime Minister Hun Sen and Minister Shanmugam welcomed the good progress made by ASEAN and discussed the importance of maintaining the momentum for ASEAN's integration, improving ASEAN's connectivity and ensuring that ASEAN continues to play a central role in the evolving regional architecture.


Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong will host dinner for Minister Shanmugam tonight. Minister Shanmugam will have an audience with King Norodom Sihamoni and call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Council of Ministers Sok An tomorrow.
