Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary Dr János Martonyi, who is on an official visit to Singapore, called on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law Mr K Shanmugam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this afternoon. The meeting was followed by an official lunch that Minister Shanmugam hosted for Minister Martonyi and his delegation.

The two leaders affirmed our good bilateral relations and agreed that Singapore and Hungary should, as small countries in an interconnected world, work closely together and build closer linkages. The Ministers also exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, such as the situation in Europe and developments in Asia.

Earlier in the day, Minister Martonyi paid a courtesy call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam.

Minister Martonyi also delivered the EU Centre in Singapore's Distinguished Speakers' Lecture, entitled "Overcoming the Financial and Debt Crisis in the European Union and Preserving the Stability of the Eurozone", at the Suntec Convention Centre in the afternoon.
