MFA Spokesman's Comments in response to media queries for an update on the floods in Bangkok

In response to media queries for an update on the floods in Bangkok, the MFA Spokesman said :

Flood waters have begun to recede in some parts of Bangkok. The Thai authorities have managed to stem the flooding in the north of Bangkok and continue to take all necessary efforts to drain the water. Parts of Bangkok, however, still remain flooded. The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority has also warned Bangkok residents of the possibility of outbreaks of diarrhoea, leptospirosis, cold and flu as well as infection of wounds, and has advised them to take the necessary preventive health precautions.

We therefore continue to advise Singaporeans to consider deferring non-essential travel to Bangkok and other affected provinces. Singaporeans in Bangkok or planning to visit Bangkok are strongly advised to avoid the flood-affected areas, take the necessary precautions, heed the instructions of the local authorities and closely monitor local news.
