MFA Spokesman's comments in response to media queries for an update on the floods in Bangkok

In response to media queries for an update on the floods in Bangkok, the MFA Spokesman said:

"The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised that, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority, the Districts of Din Daeng, Huai Khwang, Wang Thonglang could be affected by flood waters of approximately 30 - 50 centimetres high possibly by early 6 November 2011 (Sunday), followed by the Districts of Pathumwan and Ratchathewi. The Thai Foreign Ministry has also advised those in the affected areas to consider moving valuable belongings, automobiles and electrical outlets to higher ground and monitor news broadcasts from various TV channels besides the official government announcements and advice.

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok remains in close touch with Singaporeans in the affected areas. Singaporeans in Bangkok are advised to stay vigilant, heed warnings from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local authorities and consider moving to higher ground or areas unaffected by the flooding if they have any concerns over their personal safety.

We continue to urge Singaporeans to defer non-essential travel to Bangkok and those visiting Bangkok to consider bringing forward their departure.
